The Cordillera Peoples Alliance (CPA) endorses Hon. Neri Colmenares, Senior Deputy Minority Leader, in his senatorial candidacy. CPA firmly believes that Colmenares, dubbed “Fighter ng Bayan,” will genuinely represent the marginalized sectors in senate, including historically marginalized and neglected indigenous peoples.
The track record of Colmenares as a three-term representative of Bayan Muna Partylist at the House of Representatives is truly exceptional. Colmenares has authored and co-authored 472 resolutions and proposed bills, nine important laws for the people such as RA 9745: Anti-Torture Act; RA 10639: Free Mobile Disaster Alerts; RA 10380: Local Absentee Voting for Media; RA 10069: Health Workers’ Day Act; RA: Human Rights Victims Reparation and Recognition and more.
In addition, Colmenares prioritized the passage of laws such as the P2,000 SSS monthly pension increase; P125 additional daily wage for all workers; P2billion assistance for OFWs; genuine agrarian reform and free irrigation; and additional social pension for all senior citizens and benefits and pension for barangay officials. Colmenares tirelessly delivered privilege speeches concerning the issues of Pork Barrel, corruption, human rights issues, disasters, and on indigenous peoples in congress.
Pitong taon sa Kongreso na hindi nagpayaman. Mula sa Kongreso hanggang sa mga korte at maging sa pakikibaka sa lansangan, laging naroon si Neri Colmenares, lumalaban para sa bayan.
This is what makes Colmenares different from the rest. He is not only a Representative at the House of Congress but also a street parliamentarian. Colmenares joins protest actions on issues affecting the people. He visits human rights victims in jails and in communities. He listens to the plight of street vendors, peasants, fisher folks, workers, senior citizens, women, youth, indigenous peoples and more. He supports indigenous peoples in their fight for their rights to their ancestral lands and self-determination. A martial law victim and survivor himself, the core of Colmenares service to the people has been firmly and constantly grounded on human rights.
He has clearly articulated national industrialization and genuine agrarian reform as springboards for development and progress for the majority of the Filipino people. Without these, there can never be a comprehensive development for the Filipino people. As a legislator, lawyer and political activist, Colmenares has clearly demonstrated what it means to advance the politics of change—that is, responding in concrete to the basic issues of the people and being the voice of the marginalized, exploited and disadvantaged sectors.
Kailangan natin si Neri Colmenares sa Senado. As a champion of people’s rights and indigenous people’s rights, let us support Colmenares. As his track record shows, Colmenares is our hope for our aspirations to be heard in the Senate. Likewise, let us also support Bayan Muna Partylist.***
